My Strong Tower

As we begin to enter into the last quarter of 2012 almost everyone recognizes uncertainty and fear lurking around issues like economical, political and global unrest.  Sometimes we have a tendency to think we are the only ones in history to experience such uncertain times. Every nation has gone through a variety of shakings, changes, and hardships.  The real question is what we do as individuals and collectively as a nation during these seasons.  Personally, I will use the words of Joshua to share my heart during these uncertain times, “For me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” When you serve and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ you will receive unwavering, unchangeable truth that has the power to set you free from fear; prosper you in any situation which  life presents and allows the living river of hope to fill your heart.  When you choose to serve […]

The Presence of God brings Success

God went ahead of them in a Pillar of Cloud during the day to guide them on the way, and at night in a Pillar of Fire to give them light; thus they could travel both day and night. The Pillar of Cloud by day and the Pillar of Fire by night never left the people. Exodus 13:21-22 How do you define real success? Is it money, power, position, respect, family size, house size, the type of vehicle you drive, the country club you belong to or don’t belong to for that matter? Maybe yours is more spiritual. Is it how much you pray, the scriptures you memorize, or the things you do for the poor, the church and your community?  Maybe it is based on how many follow you on social media or the size of your church or small group. If we aren’t careful, we will define success […]

Longing to be Loved

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:2-3 Moses communicated a massive revelation about what fills us up and satisfies our whole being.   The God of heaven and earth wanted to teach our ancestors (family of God) that man doesn’t live on bread alone but on every word that comes from God’s mouth.  He wanted them and us to know that we were designed to live on His words of love.  What really […]

His Grace is More than Enough

The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more. Romans 5:20 Several years ago, a friend shared with me that he went skydiving.  He said,” I always wanted to do it, and it looked like it would be a blast.”  However, the day came for him to make good on his dream jump, and things changed a bit.  He said, “As the plane took off, my nerves were like butterflies swarming around in my stomach.”  When the instructor indicated that it was time to jump, my friend said that the excitement from the previous days had now mysteriously converted to logic.  How is this parachute going to stop both of us from hitting the ground? Nothing made sense in his mind, but about that time, the instructor hurled them both out of the plane. My friend said he screamed, “God help me,” until the […]

Sharing His Spirit by Marc Owings

Have you ever been around an individual in a business, ministry, or family setting and thought to yourself, “I wish I had that gifting or same spirit?”  I have had those thoughts in business, ministry, and parenting on many occasions. I think that anytime we recognize the spirit of God operating in someone, regardless of the venue, we become hungry for that same spirit to operate in and on our lives. Years ago, before Leslie and I had children, I had this very thing happen to me. I was with a friend and his 3 year old son just hanging out one afternoon. My friend’s son was getting a bit cranky, so dad picked him up and wrapped his legs around him, so that the boy was facing him while seated in his lap. Softly, he began to sing a little song to him while staring straight into his innocent, […]

He Sings Over You!

By day the LORD directs his love, at night his song is with me— a prayer to the God of my life. Psalm 42:8 There is an indescribable joy when you know that you have entered the presence of the loving God of all creation. For years people have tried to teach, preach and write books to explain to people how to enter into His loving embrace. However, I have found there is no formula to this encounter, but we should hunger for never the less. Recently, a friend of mine sent me an e-mail that ignited a desire for such an encounter. Marc Have you ever been so overwhelmed by the presence of God that the world just seems to fade away? Every anxious thought, every hurt and frustration just drops off, and you can literally hear the clank of the chains as they hit the floor. All you […]

My Child

Listen, God! Please, pay attention! Can you make sense of these ramblings, my groans and cries? King-God, I need your help. Every morning you’ll hear me at it again. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on your altar and watch for fire to descend. Psalm 5:3 (The Message) In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice. In the morning, I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3 (NIV) Every day, we all face a variety of situations, trials and struggles.  Along with these issues, we experience a wide range of stress levels.    When we don’t have a specific prayer time, these stresses build up each day until they riddle our mind, will and emotions with weights we were never designed to carry. God didn’t suggest prayer to be another burden but rather a place for us to lay our burdens on the altar. […]

Clashing of Iron

Clashing of Iron by Marc Owings As Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17 Everyone needs to be sharpened in their careers, families, relationships and spiritual lives. The greatest growth we can experience is through our relationships with other people.  Many people like the thought of this idea until their iron clashes up against someone, and they experience growing pains. Healthy relationships add value to one another; it’s a give and take rhythm that is based on selflessness. Growing relationships require transparency, honesty and a ton of communication that is not one sided.  None of us are smart enough to do all of the talking. That’s why the healthiest relationships are the ones that add value to each other.  This is harder than one might think! Honest and heartfelt conversations in which it is safe to challenge and be challenged are rare. We are to be a […]

Embracing Life

Embracing Life by Marc Owings So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. Romans 12:1-2 Life is an incredible journey filled with new joyful experiences and laced with confusion and disappointment.  How are we to live this life with such a mixture of unique, joyful and painful experiences? […]

Words from a Spiritual Father

I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of hands. For God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 Timothy is being reminded by his spiritual Father, the apostle, Paul, of the day he laid his hands on him and released him to the call of God on his life. Paul knew where he started and through the spirit understood what the enemy was whispering in his ears. Timothy was young and pastoring a local church that might have knocked the wind out of him a bit. It makes one wonder if young Timothy’s spiritual flame, that once burned bright with passion, was now barley a flicker and fading fast. The Bible doesn’t tell us if it was burnout, discouragement, disappointment or a spiritual attack. But sometimes […]
